Welcome to Bristol Breakfast Rotary Club
Bristol Breakfast Rotary Club was established over 30 years ago. We have around 50 members who are actively engaged in making a difference. Our club motto is to ‘Step Forward and Give Back’. Through the enthusiasm, vigour and good humour of our members, the Club provides a focus for informative weekly meetings, charity fundraising, service activities to support those in need, and a wide range of social events, thereby creating enduring friendships.
We meet at breakfast each Wednesday morning. Since the pandemic interrupted our lives, our meetings have taken place on Zoom, with presentations from key speakers from business, educational establishments and the charity sector. These high-quality presentations have attracted guests from different parts of the UK and internationally.
The Club energetically raises funds through two major annual events, The Rotary Dragon Boat Festival at Bristol Harborside, which has raised over £750,000 for good causes since 2001, and a Corporate Golf Day hosted at the prestigious Bristol and Clifton Golf Club. Also, this past year, we have held a virtual fundraising dinner, participated in the Great Weston charity cycle ride and members have donated breakfast monies towards charity funds.
The Club has implemented and supported a substantial number of projects and initiatives over the years to help those in need here in Bristol and abroad. This is a club that shares the common values of Rotary – Service above Self. In particular, Bristol Breakfast Rotarians have stepped up to help those that are facing serious difficulties because of the pandemic. For example, we have supported the Bridge Learning Campus, a school in the most disadvantaged ward of Bristol, by providing breakfasts each school day, and by donating IT equipment for pupils to help with on-line learning. We have also supported local foodbanks and many other charities caring for the homeless and people with other urgent needs.
The international theme for the present Rotary year is “Rotary opens opportunities”, and our Club has a proud record of supporting overseas communities and people in need. Notably, we are supporting a long-term education programme in Nepal, and, in Kenya, we are providing help to a Bristol-based charity, Maji Safi, who make available extraordinary assistance to a school in Kenya in the way of education, water, sanitation and health.
We thrive on new ideas and initiatives from our members and partner organisations that, like us, strive to support those in need. And we welcome like-minded individuals to join us in supporting our existing projects and activities, and to introduce new initiatives to the Club.
We take great pride in embracing new friendships. So, if you are visiting our wonderful city of Bristol, or living in the city or nearby, we would be delighted to welcome you to join one of our meetings or activities. Please see details of our upcoming meetings and other events detailed on these club web pages where we hope you will find something to excite your interest.
