Welcome to our October newsletter 2026/27 Rotary year
President's Note
The highlight of the month was our Dragon Boat Festival Celebration and Prize Giving meeting held on 21 October.
We had a full house and a lot of fun!
As a Rotary Club, we are fortunate enough to have the support of many people and we’d like to thank especially the Bristol Lord Mayorand the Lord Lieutenant Peaches Golding, who continue to show up for us and we are extremely grateful.
Our Dragonboat Winners were Burgess Salmon, Best Fancy Dress went to Business Beats Cancer and our top fundraisers were Whats on Bristol, all of whom celebrated the morning with us and we’re grateful to them for getting up so early to be with us!
We had a few words from our District Governor Lucy Thornton, our President Willem Pietersen, our President Elect Mike Kain, and Tony Hughes, our membership lead, all of it being seamlessly run by Derrick Royall, who ably manages all the Dragonboat arrangements.
And we won’t forget the continued support we have from our Past District Governor Anne Bartholomew, who presented our Immediate Past President Elaine Milne with a certificate of appreciation for our own club to recognise the financial support we have given to the End Polio Now campaign.
We are already in the planning for Dragonboat 2027, to be held on 27th June 2027, so get your entries in early for what promises to be a fantastic day!
World Polio Day
Our club, together with the rest of the world, marked World Polio Day on the 24 October.
This day recognises the huge steps that have been made to eradicate the disease, but also that more work still needs to be done. The latest available data shows the recent progress that has been made - however we plan to continue our support for this initiative until it is done.
