Welcome to our September newsletter of Rotary Year 2025/26
President's Note
Things are starting to become busy again now that the corporate months are once again upon us. I always say that once we get into September, it's Christmas, so it's time for us to be productive!
We're working on a few projects behind the scenes and we are getting things moving within the various Club Committees. I will report back with these shortly!
For this month, I wanted to focus on our famous Dragonboat Festival, which takes place each June at Bristol Harbourside.
Even in my relatively short time with Rotary, I've heard so many times that it's not widely known that it's our amazing club that runs this fantastic Dragonboat day, so it's a lovely opportunity to get that news out there!
Yes, it's us! And we're very proud of it!
We have already started planning and we thought it was important to get ahead of the game. It will be the 25th Anniversary of our Dragonboat event in 2026 and, with your help and support, we know we can make it the best one yet!
Please do feel free to contact me directly or to get in touch with any of our members, who can tell you more about the club, the benefits of being a member, the opportunities that await you as a member of Rotary International, and let's not forget the fun and friendship that comes along with it!
Save The Date!
Or should I say, save TWO dates, but only temporarily! We have requested the 14th June and the 28th June, and we are awaiting the Harbourmaster's authorisation as at the point of writing this. Of course, we will update you as soon as we know, but this should hopefully allow you to make a plan!
25th Anniversary Celebrations!
We can't believe our beloved Dragonboat Festival, our main fundraiser, has been running for a quarter of a century!
Our 2026 event will be our 25th Anniversary and we want to make it extra special.
We are extremely proud of what we have achieved so far and of the number of charities we've been able to help.
Since we started, we have raised a whopping £873545 from our Dragonboat Festival alone!
We've supported countless charities in and around Bristol and made a difference to people across the city, the county and beyond.
Help us make our 25th Anniversary a special one to send that total higher! We might add in a few surprises in 2026, just to mark the occasion and smash through the £900,000 mark!
2025 Dragonboat Prizegiving
Our prizegiving event to honour this year's winners and to present to our chosen charities will take place on 8th October at our usual club venue.
Our winners this year, for the second year running, were Rolls Royce Apprentices. Runners up were Frazer Splash and Business Beats Cancer Bristol Dragons were a close third.
Best fancy dress went to Box Twenty FIN-ishers....we couldn't resist their Jaws costumes and 'blood'-stained t-shirts! At least, we hope it wasn't actual blood!
The charities that we chose as this year's beneficiaries are Lifeskills Learning for Living, the Hartcliffe & Withywood Community Partnership and Unseen UK.
We will have a number of special guests attend, including Bristol's Lord Mayor and some notable Rotary dignitaries.
How To Get Involved
Our very own Derrick Royall does the most incredible job of pulling this brilliant event together. It's a huge amount of work and Derrick has already selected a team to push ahead with planning for next year.
Already we have started accepting entries, so don't miss out! We have capacity for around 30 teams, and as we are well ahead of the game already, we are planning for a full house....or a full harbour, so to speak!
We want to make 2026 special, so please do get in touch if you would like to enter a team, help us during the day at the event (we'll keep you busy doing everything from rounding up the teams to dragging the bins around and everything in between!), or be the photographer's assistant..... I add that part in as it's usually me who is the photographer and I could do with a hand!!
Contact me directly and I'll link you up with Derrick or drop us an enquiry through the usual channels.
We will see you in 2026!
Thank You!
Thank you for reading our September newsletter. We will share with you news of past events as well as current and forthcoming initiatives as we go through the year. Please let us know if you have an ideas, would like more information or to take part in anything we do.
Our Club Events are shown on the right of the page, so please do get in touch if you would like to attend one of our meetings as a guest, we'd be very happy to have you!
Until Next Month.......
