About Our Friendly, Not-for-Profit Rotary Club of Bristol Breakfast

We are a vibrant club with a membership of over 50 people, one of the largest Rotary Clubs in the area, growing strongly each year. Our members range in age from their twenties up to retirees. This means that the Club’s members can enjoy a choice of exciting activities – social, fund-raising & business networking.

Wednesday Morning Meetings

We normally meet each Wednesday for breakfast at the Bambalan Restaurant. Podium Level, Beacon Tower in the centre of Bristol from 7.00am but during this covid pandemic we meet virtually via Zoom.

Our main fundraiser each year is the Dragon Boat Festival held in June on Bristol Harbourside near the Cottage Public House – huge fun, good for team-building and supporting good causes.

We have a Networking group for the very many members who aren’t retired & want an opportunity to discuss business opportunities – a proportion of the Club that is increasing quite quickly! Our new Rotary year starts on 1st July each year.

You may have guessed that although our Club knows how to take some things seriously, we put having fun very near the top of the agenda!

Rotary Does Charity Differently

We are unique in that 100% of funds donated to our Rotary club goes directly to fund charitable projects. Because many of our members are also volunteering and generously giving their time and help in-kind, we can focus on what matters most.

Rotary International

Rotary International is a worldwide organisation of service clubs which brings together professional, business and community leaders to provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

For 114 years, Rotary members have been addressing challenges around the world. Grassroots at the core, Rotary today links over 1.2 million members to form an organisation of international scope with nearly 35,000 Clubs around the world serving communities and providing for good causes wheever they are.

How Was Rotary Founded?

Four gentlemen from small towns found themselves working in “the big city” of Chicago, Illinois, USA at the beginning of the twentieth century. They felt a couple things missing from their busy professional lives: Meaningful interaction with other business folks and giving back to their local communities. In 1905, the Rotary Club was founded. The name “Rotary” comes from the fact that the founding members would rotate taking turns hosting their weekly luncheon meeting. Members of Rotary are called “Rotarians”.

A few notable Rotarians include:

  • Sir Winston Churchill
  • HRH Prince Charles & HRH Prince Phillip
  • John F. Kennedy
  • Catholic Pope Francis
  • Dr. Charles Mayo, founder of the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and Florida, USA
  • Thomas Edison, inventor
  • Sam Walton, founder of Wal-Mart retail stores
  • Walt Disney, animated film maker & producer
